Derek posted this to Facebook on Thursday evening. Enjoy his perspective:
Heading back home after an awesome 6 months in CR.
It’s been a great ride, met a ton of cool people, many who moved here in search of a better life for their kids than their homeland could offer.
Anyone who has ever visited Costa Rica can attest to the wonder of Pura Vida (which is both a greeting and a way of life, loosely meaning pure life).

We have heard tons of stories about what brought people here but I will recount my favorite.
We met a guy from New Jersey who had just moved down and bought a restaurant in Arenal, a popular tourist spot near a volcano.
He had just been to CR a few months ago and loved it. Shortly after he got back to the States, he returned to his job as a carpenter and his union fined him $2,700 for showing up on the floor 6 minutes early…He dropped his tools, told his boss to go fuck himself, and 3 minutes later, he had purchased a one way ticket to CR.
Our kids were able to learn a new language in a classroom where literally every kid was from a different country. If anyone is ever looking for an amazing adventure with or without kids for even a month, 2 months, 6 months…this is an ideal place.
Of all of the pleasures here, I will miss most the sunset ritual where almost everyone is at the beach, just chilling out. I have perfected being a soccer goalie with a can of frosty Imperial Light in one hand.
Looking forward to seeing friends and family…and most importantly 2 dozen Golden Palace eggrolls going down my throat in one sitting.
A special shout out to 1 lovely wife and 2 little dudes who made this such a memorable experience.
Hasta Luego Tamarindo…we shall see you soon.

I think I’ve enjoyed your time in Costa Rica almost as much as you! Reading your blog is like a virtual vacation. Still, looking forward to having you back at home

Thanks for reading Lynn! I’m currently at the Rideau Centre trying to get my Mac keyboard fixed… feeling a little culture shock.
